We have had a very productive week, continuing to disseminate technology and supplies to students. It has been going very well and we are appreciative of everyone that stopped by. Kudos to all our staff that are working around the clock to ensure this is relatively painless for our families!
School begins this MONDAY, and we are so excited to welcome everyone back – in Remote Learning of course. Our teachers are ready – they have been working so hard to make this experience meaningful. During the first week, our elementary and middle school students will ease into the schedule, and we will not be having specials at the very end of the day. Because the special teachers have so many students, there are some added steps to get their Google Classrooms up and running. You may see them behind the scenes supporting classroom teachers next week, and they will be up and running the following week. As an aside – yes, you may see a few school buses around town – our vocational students that attend Smith Voke or the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative may be getting the bus to go to their classes.
Next week you will see some tents up at our elementary schools, as kindergarten screening begins at Center and Pepin for all our little friends. We welcome our new K families to the district.
Remember, if you have questions next week, reach out to your child’s teacher or building principal. We will do our best to respond as quickly as possible.
Athletes do not forget to get your physicals, and a Covid test before the season starts.
Families, in case you have not heard, all children will be required to have the flu vaccine this year – the only exceptions being for medical or religious reasons. This needs to be done by Dec. 31, 2020.
This will be my last logistical update, as the school year gets underway next week. However, I will transition to providing “Superintendent Updates” at least 2 times per month to keep you as informed as possible. As the year gets underway, you will also receive School newsletters every month from your child’s school.
Finally, School Committee meets on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Rest up everybody – it will be a busy week next week!
Allison LeClair, Superintendent
