Beginning on Friday, March 20, 2020, we will be providing a free bag breakfast and lunch for Easthampton children 0-18 years of age in need.
In an ongoing effort to keep our staff safe, we are announcing a shift in our school meals distribution for families during the school closure.
Beginning on Monday, March 23, 2020, we are moving to a three day per week distribution schedule. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we will distribute meals.
On Mondays and Wednesdays, families will receive 2 days worth of meals and on Fridays, they will receive meals for Fri., Sat. and Sunday.
Location and methods of meal distribution:
Please pull to the back of the Easthampton High School building and remain in your vehicle. Someone will deliver your meals to your car.
If you are unable to pick up meals and would like them delivered to your home, please call 413-575-1565. We will need to know the number of children and your address when you call.
A volunteer will deliver the meals to your front door. The volunteer will knock or ring your bell and then leave the meals at your door. Please remain in your home until the volunteer has returned to their vehicle. If you are available to volunteer to bring meals to homes around Easthampton at least one morning per week, please call the number above.
We are grateful to our Food Service Program – Chartwells and all of the volunteers who are supporting us to meet the needs in our community.
As you know, news about precautionary responses to COVID-19 has been rapidly evolving. A few items I wanted to share with families this morning:
1.The Cheer Team’s State competition scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled. No word on a reschedule date.
2.The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has postponed the start of the spring sports season to March 30th. Teams are not allowed to hold practices until then. No games can begin until 11 days after practices have begun (including the first day). This means that no games or meets will be held until at least April 10th.
3.The Swim Team banquet scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled.
4.Open gym for boys’ and girls’ basketball has been cancelled.
5.The Equity Steering Committee meeting and the public tour of the African-American history museum scheduled for Wednesday evening have both been cancelled.
We promise we will keep families informed as quickly as we can as this situation unfolds in the coming hours and days.
Finally, we are aware that this constant bombardment of information can be overwhelming for all of us. Many of our students are feeling the stress of so much change in such a short period of time. Our hope is to provide students with only the facts that we know, to help them understand what they can do to protect themselves and their loved ones, and to try to maintain as much normalcy and routine as we can. Thank you for your continued support of this important work we are engaged in together.
Due to an abundance of safety, the Easthampton Public Schools will be postponing kindergarten registration, scheduled for March 12, 2020, and kindergarten tours, scheduled for March 13, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are taking measures to limit the number of people who have access to our buildings to keep our staff and students healthy. At this time, we have 0 cases of COVID-19.
The district will be reviewing these types of decisions within 30 days or as needed.
Thank you for your patience as we address this ever-evolving situation.
